From "da Plan":
... every "eligible" member!
Not such hard work really, as the 2025 SECU Strategic Plan appears to be identical to the 2024 SECU Strategic Plan, which appears to be identical to the 2023 SECU Strategic Plan, which... well you get the picture.
The Strategic Plan may be much like the "Ten Commandments", not really requiring much "updating" ('cause it's set in stone, evidently!). Or it could be that there hasn't been much progress to report over the last 3 years... hard to say. The ELT and the SECU Board don't seem to care to talk [nor listen!] to the members much anymore.. who can tell what's really going on?
But bear with me. If our Mission Statement says we are "committed to serving every eligible member"; and, with the Board's goal of "open membership/anybody can join" for SECU then...
😎 Ipso facto, doesn't that mean that the SECU Board has decided to spend existing member resources trying to serve everyone in the world? (Since everyone in the world will become "eligible" to join?) [Read it again, slowly!]
Take it our SECU ego has gone "GLOBAL" - is that correct?
Serving ["only"!] the Eligible Credit Union... is that what "SECU" needs to be?
NAFTA destroyed America and local communities by outsourcing manufacturing work.. We need these jobs in our NC communities. We don’t need to see SECU go regional and that will be their excuse to outsource our work and hire people across the globe for lower wages. That’s their plan. States have other credit unions. We need our localized credit union especially since the local community banks have been bought up.
ReplyDeleteThese people lack empathy for our staff and membership. It’s about cutting cost and maximizing profit. They look at data. They don’t care about humanity.
These folks must not drive around NC much. Go look at all the empty manufacturing buildings that corporations sent overseas in order to cut labor costs. That’s what they want to do with SECU. Take SECU regional. Close up some branches in NC. Hire less workers out of our communities. And before you know it, you’ll be driving in local communities 10 years from now seeing empty SECU branches that use to have our employees working. Just like the textile buildings we see empty now.
ReplyDeleteand if you want/have to go to a branch, it may be an hour or more away from your home...
DeleteSoon they'll have a new jingle ...
ReplyDelete“Over 99 Billion served"
it's like termites gnawing at the foundation ... you can't really see the damage until you expose them. By then it may or may not be salvageable.
ReplyDeleteWe can salvage it. Stay strong. It’s not over.
DeleteRegional expansion is just step 1 to globalize our credit union and take it out of the local memberships hands. Don’t let the flowery words fool you and data fool you. I’m sure the manufacturing executives tried to convince sending jobs overseas or out of state was a good thing to because of the all mighty data they try to shove down your throats. Dont let these ghouls rip it from us. Stay strong folks. Keep spreading awareness.
ReplyDeleteCommunity banks use to not be such an enemy to the credit union world, but there really is no such thing as a community bank anymore. They are mostly regional .They just want SECU to eat up all the small credit unions and take SECU regional further expanding power and giving them more profit. It’s that simple. They ain’t here to help you folks. Never have. Never will. They’ll sell you out the minute they get the chance. You are there to press buttons. That’s it
ReplyDeleteBelieve your reading comprehension is at fault here Mr. Blaine. “Member” implies you have already joined; can’t be a member without joining first. “Eligible member” would be referring to members that are eligible for all services SECU offers. For instance, SECU cant lend to members under the age of 18 in most circumstances, but those members would be eligible for deposit account services. Members that have caused SECU a loss are also not eligible for services outside of maintaining their base share account.
ReplyDeletePull up Hayes’s old emails at SECU…I’ll show you some reading comprehension issues and grammar issues…man didn’t even know to spell or type an email. Didn’t know how to work a computer. Bob white was too complicated, so he whined and cried because our technology was too complicated for him. $6,000,000 man couldn’t even work BobWhite
Delete9:26 am Appears to be one of those AI hallucinogenic comments, but posted anyway.
DeleteTwo questions would be:
1) Is the 5 year old son (with good credit !!!) of a member "eligible" to join SECU and open a FatCat account (even w/o "gym privileges")?
2) Is an NC teacher with "bad credit" who is not a member "eligible" or not to join SECU?
Thank you!
Jim this is just splitting hairs and it’s just sad at this point. This is moot. The board and SeCu have repeatedly denied pushing for or advocating for open membership. You just don’t like that answer because it doesn’t fit your narrative.
ReplyDelete1:04pm Where can I find that definitive statement from the Board?
DeleteDo you think that the current Board would be willing to make a public statement to explain to the membership its intentions in terms of membership and expansion beyond North Carolina? Maybe just post it up on the website for all to see?
Any problem with the Board communicating directly with the SECU membership on this important issue?
1:04...why would they? why do they need to waste time proving negatives? the board (and ELT) should communicate what they intend to do, why they are doing it, and how it impacts members. they don't need to communicate a list of things they don't intend to do just because a few people sit and speculate and assume they have plans they don't. no offense, but they're not going to react to you just because you think they want to go global.
DeleteJim Hayes was a huge proponent of open membership. We have the emails. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure he advocated for open membership in the fireside chats as well.
Deletehe doesn't work here anymore. bill didn't pass.
DeleteThe board needs to apologize to the membership and employees for hiring Jim Hayes. That’s a very necessary start to regain the trust from employees.
DeleteHe may not work here, but the stain he left on this company is still here. Ms. Brady has a chance to write the wrongs but hasn’t emerged as a real leader for us yet. We are still waiting
DeleteA terrific starting point to rebuild the trust Jim Hayes cost SECU.
DeleteInstead of apologizing, the week before he left, The Board published a letter to the membership saying Jim Hayes had their FULL support and everyone of them signed it. Eight of those board members are still on the board.
Delete"“H 410 would allow anyone and any business in the world to join an NC state-chartered credit union,” the association told lawmakers in a memo on the bill. “Does that still sound like a nonprofit serving people of modest means who share a common bond?”"
DeleteNC Bankers Association
6:11 pm You demonstrate so well the concerns folks have about the "new/new" attitude at SECU... say no more! Got it!
ReplyDeleteOpen field of membership was an important component of HB 410 which SECU helped write and lobbied for. So how are the members to know that open field of membership is a "moot point." Jim Hayes at least claimed it. Has the Board absolutely backed away from that? Where can a member find that SECU leadership and Board have said they do not want an open field of membership?
ReplyDeleteMost of the negative commenters towards the board and leadership would love to see the current ceo step up to the plate and be a leader for the workers and members. I’m ready to embrace her once she becomes a real leader
ReplyDeleteI hope she notices that most of us hate Hayes and board. Not necessarily her. She still has a chance here. It’s not too late. Trust me, the disgruntled workforce wants to move on but we want this gem of an organization to remain in tact and away from vultures who just want to profit. I bet Jim Blaine feels the exact same way. I highly doubt Blaine wants this organization to fall apart…that’s why he and other commenters are critical of the board. We love SECU. We love what a credit union is and we want to be proud of where we work again. Credit unions and co-ops are needed now more than ever in the financial industry. People are losing their trust with many financial institutions. Let’s not become one of them.
DeleteWe don’t want a puppet. We want a real genuine good hearted human being as our ceo that cares about the employees and membership. She’s got to earn that. Blaine did. Lord did. Hayes obviously did not. Brady…it remains to be seen but we will see by her and the boards actions this year
DeleteShe’s been with us for years…we are trying our best to give her the benefit of the doubt.. we want Leigh brady to succeed, but we will call her out on her BS if she is basically is just Jim Hayes 2.0. Again, we want Leigh Brady to do well. It’s up to her. The path is hers to choose. Now as for the board, they might as well resign. They are not winning our trust back. Ever again.
