The Real Thing: People Helping People!
To the Editor:
This is a follow-up letter to provide a bit more detail about the upcoming State Employees Credit Union board of director election. This is an important election for the members of the State Employees’ Credit Union. Currently there are no term limits for the directors to serve, meaning they can serve for decades.
The candidates who wish to be considered for election are members who are nominated for election in one of two ways; either by the current board members who are serving on the nominating committee or self-nomination. To be self-nominated one must receive a minimum of 500 original member signatures on an official nominating petition and submit as required
This year there were 11 interested candidates of which the nominating committee selected only four. The four selected were, you guessed it, the four current board members whose terms are expiring. Therefore, four additional members who wish to be considered for a position on the board had to go out and obtain 500 member signatures, which they did. These four self-nominated candidates, Jean Blaine, Kirby Parrish, Julian Hawes, and Susie Ford, are well grounded in the roots of the member owned cooperative. They are committed to doing the right thing for every member.
I would also like to provide another website for your review which will provide additional information on the self-nominated candidates. If you are an State Employees Credit Union member, please take the time to review this website – www.secuforall.com. This election is important for the future of a member owned cooperative who has served the state employees of North Carolina and their families since 1937. This is your organization. Absentee voting is already in process and continues through Oct. 1. Do your due diligence and vote.
