What Was All That About...

 October 9, 2023

Dear Ms. Ray:

We listened with great interest to the discussion held at today's Commission meeting. Hope the subcommittee review of bylaw standards and the State Statutes will be a productive process. Look forward to learning more about how the process will be implemented and managed.

As we understood the purpose of the Commission meeting today, it was to address the two simple questions we reposed to you in our October 7, 2023 letter (excerpt):

"We would like to clarify the two questions which we hope will be answered at this Special Commission Meeting. A precise response should be un-difficult for the N.C. Attorney General's Office, as your counsel.

Q: 1)  Is the N.C. Credit Union Division required by North Carolina law to monitor and enforce compliance by state-chartered credit unions with their bylaws? (We believe the answer is obviously "yes". Why would the NCCUD be required by North Carolina law to approve all bylaw amendments, if the NCCUD was not expected to enforce compliance with those bylaws?)
Q: 2)  May a N.C. state-chartered credit union adopt rules, policies and procedures which effectively amend its bylaws without approval by the NCCUD? (Again, we believe the answer is obviously "no''. North Carolina law requires that the Credit Union Division approve all bylaw amendments by a credit union)."

We first posed these questions in our 7-25-2023 meeting which was over 60 days ago. As the Administrator, you can answer these questions without any extended legal balderdash or imposing on the Commission further. We would again request a simple, declarative statement from you on these two regulatory questions.

Could we be assured of hearing from you in the next 10 days? Thank you.

Sincerely,
Jean and Jim Blaine

... should have submitted a bylaw amendment to get an "overnight" response!

  3. She’s probably on vacation for the next 10 days. And busy doing nothing to help credit unions exist for the rest of her tenure. Great job, Ms Ray. You don’t even stand up for the institutions you’re supposed to represent.

  6. Holy moly, Mr Blaine. You led the charge, and we have 3 new board members. Well done sir. Maybe SECU begins moving back to doing what's best for the members, not what's best for just some members. No more growth just for the sake of growth. To all who voted for our 3 new board members, thank you. The vote was close enough to say every vote mattered.

    1. Only reason it was even close was because of all of the board's shenanigans. They did everything they could, totally stacked the deck in their favor, and still lost.

And now the other incumbents are on notice that they aren't untouchable after all.

  13. As a retired SECU employee, It was an honor to attend the annual meeting. It was a privilege to see our members engaged in expressing their heartfelt concerns regarding the current direction of their credit union. Their passion for " doing the right thing" is truly awe inspiring. The icing on the cake was knowing that all the hard work Jim and other true credit union proponents put in paid off when the final votes announced that the member backed nominees had been elected to the board.. Great victory! Now we can start working on replacing the others.

  17. Celebrate today but don't think it's over. We are still the minority, 8-3. First order is to do it again next year and remove 3 more to become the majority 6-5. Then, over the next two years, the remaining 5 must be removed for their incompetence and refusal to acknowledge the numerous errors, starting with the selfie queen...

  21. Accountability is a great thing. Seeing the results of those in a position of authority being held accountable is an even greater thing. SECU Members, Retirees and Employees have lost a great deal over the past two years at the hands of This Board. Today's election results held three of those individuals accountable. As Member Owners, it is imperative for the sake of our cooperative's future, WE must remain engaged in choosing our leaders. Sending a very special thanks to those who worked so tirelessly on this effort of reclaiming our credit union.

  22. Thank you Mr and Mrs Blaine for all your hard work and dedication to our SECU!! We did it!!! Kudos to everyone who helped in this effort to bring to light what this (former) board was doing in the dark. We must continue to pay attention and stay focused. People helping people. Members FIRST! ❤️

  23. We, myself along with those 7000 plus Members who voted against the incumbents are also awaiting Ms. Ray"s reply to the email drafted by Mr. & Mrs. Blaine on behalf of many SECU Member Owners. Three of the Board of Directors who brought these Bylaw changes before your Division on the last days of June have now been removed by the Members' votes. Looking forward to Ms. Ray's response.

  31. This is a start that may help the front “look” of SECU. The “back” is still under attack. Employees are in a hostile environment! Demotions, forced retirements, lies and no merit raises! SECU has a long way to go. New management has a goal of making SECU an FCB, Truist, BoA or at least a Wells. Let’s see what the new direction will be over the next 12 months. We need to be a Member supporting SECU again, not a cookie cutter FI. …..signed current employee under “fire”!!!

but we're going to need a 6-5 majority to "accept" her retirement or resignation her choice!

    3. No merit raises. After all the money spent on doing the study, at the most the employees got were new titles that mean nothing. Employees prefer the new titles more than the pay adjustment is the hogwash we were given. And some teams are going back to the board again for the titles too. How much money was wasted on that? Titles is what employees want more than pay - is that why the headhunters are constantly visiting us providing free breakfast handouts? We know they are not here for Brady, pompous bombastica, Jared, Seabrook, Lee Chalk, etc. What has this financial institution become and where is it headed?

  34. “Thank you for your comments” The dork at podium was left speechless by the endless testimonies. Only words he could mutter out. Only 2 oppositional testimonies and one of them came from a guy from the Carolina credit union league😂 you know he sold out and is getting a cut to say that. And the other goofus was yelling at the crowd calling us crazy 😏socialists😏 and to go to China…. sir we’ve been doing this for 85+ years and it’s worked and nobody has complained until the past 2 1/2 years. Sounds like people love what the credit union has done! Maybe you should take a ride to China! We love to provide our members with EQUAL interest rates and we love to treat members EQUAL regardless of race or credit score. Beautiful testimonies by all! Especially Jean Blaine. You know what they say…behind a great man is even a greater woman. And that is the case here…no offense mr.Blaine. Your wife rocked it! We will not be shut out! We are SECU!

If we are in the dark ages…why do so many members want to go back to them? Why did we win the election results? Why have they struggled to take control the past 2 1/2 years……hmmm…..sit down next time my guy. You obviously don’t know the membership.#WorkersUnite😉
