What Do Citizens Need? Transparency Or Cheerleading?

Regulatory Capture

** [excerpts from several articles]

The concept of Regulatory Capture (Reg Capture) typically refers to a phenomenon that occurs when a regulatory agency that is created to act in the public interest, instead advances the commercial or political concerns of special interest groups that dominate an industry. When regulatory capture occurs, the interests of firms or political groups are given priority or favor over the interests of the public.

A captured regulator is often worse than no regulation, because it wields the authority of government. But, it is never a whole industry which is ‘capturing’ its regulators, but only the big companies. There is substantial academic literature suggesting that smaller government units are easier for small, concentrated industries to capture than large ones.

Vested interests in an industry have the greatest financial stake in regulations affecting them, and so are more likely to try to influence the regulator than relatively dispersed individual consumers. When regulators form expert bodies to examine policy, these invariably feature current or former industry members.  Capture is also facilitated where consumers or taxpayers have a poorer understanding of underlying issues.

🎉🎉🎉 ... thus the government "has really just become cheerleaders for the industry".

  1. Think this is what has happened with the North Carolina Credit Union Commission and The State Regulator, Kristina Ray.

  3. Don't forget Jim Hayes and Scott Hunt, (The Regulator assigned to NCSECU by NCUA), were buddy buddy from wayback. They cross referenced each other on their Linked in pages. They also worked together at the biggest credit union failure in the history of credt unions that cost NCSECU millions of dollars. DO not forget this history! Scott Hunt is still the regulator in charge of NCSECU at NCUA!

  4. Its been obvious for some time now, that so-called reckless borrowing and spending, is actually cold-blooded and ruthlessly deliberate destruction.
Chaos must proceed the building of a new order.
SECU is now part of the new order ...

  5. As members we continue to deal with an SECU Legacy Board, SECU Executive Management and a Captured Regulator whose ambitions exceed their abilities.

It's the Keystone Cops and would be funny except their inadequacies are destroying the organization.

    1. and doing much financial damage to "people of modest means". State employees' credit union was organized to serve those people in NC---state employees AND their families. This Board and Brady/Hayes started the rumor that SECU no longer served thosed folks. How right they were!!!! State employees' and their families are now second "tier" members. Or third or fourth or excluded.
