Until 2021,
... when the 4 incumbents last ran uncontested!
✅ The incumbents are running on a clear record of decline at SECU over the last 3 years:
For the Record: * The injustice of RBL * $250 million in 2024 loan losses * 2% or less savings rates * soaring operating costs * service quality declines * erosion of trust with members and staff * the $5 billion loan and the $6 million CEO * the "you can't talk at their annual meeting * the spend your money to save their necks ads * and more!
✅ The member-nominated candidates have a different strategic plan:
- Keep costs down.
- Focus on the SECU member.
- Help SECU employees succeed.
- Keep it simple.
- Promote North Carolina and...
- Do the Right Thing!
Last chance, your choice!

Is anyone else bothered by certain members of the executive team publicly endorsing the incumbents on social media? Employees are fearful of backlash if we even whisper support for the member-nominated candidates and yet our executive and board members can endorse incumbents publicly? What is wrong with this picture? If not illegal, it is not unethical to make a decision to spend money on advertisements on Facebook, etc. for candidates that members do not wholly support? Who made these decisions? How much has been spent?
ReplyDeleteI’m sure this happens in some places, but in the branch I am out the VP came by and told all of us to vote for the member nominated candidates. There is hope for change!
Delete@8.25-I can’t agree more. Employees are quite fearful of backlash if we voice our support for the member nominated candidates.
Deletewhy wouldn't they endorse it? That's standard
DeleteMy manager asked me to vote for the 4 existing board members
DeleteSo you are ok with a branch VP telling their employees who to vote for- but bothers you to see another employee share a social media post doing the same?
DeleteObviously, bot all employees have to live by the Ethic Code we all have to agree to on a Yearly Basis!! Its pretty clear the ELT and BOD do Not!! I guess we now a company of Do as I say, Not as I Do!!!
Deletewell, yes. The board and leadership team are the only members important enough to speak at the annual meeting. All other members MUST, by diktat, remain silent.
Delete@3:57 what bothers me is the fear that employees have that they will be/have been blacklisted for supporting member nominated candidates when some executive team members obviously have no fear when they publicly support the incumbents.
DeleteI miss the days when ncsecu tried to keep jobs in nc now they don’t care and outsourcing anything they can if they feel it saves money won’t be long before contact center is outsourced to India
ReplyDelete... and those 4 board members are out sourced to anywhere but here!

I’m a long time employee, 15+ years. Used to have some sense of pride when I said I worked for SECU. Used to encourage friends, family, people I came across in my daily life to join. Used to feel like I was a part of something bigger… Now this place is just another job and frankly, not a good one. Employee morale has tanked. To see someone go the extra mile was commonplace 10 years ago, now it’s a white whale. They used to say of NCNB, No one Cares, No one Bothers. We’ve taken that mantle and rode with it. SECU is broken, and members are noticing.
ReplyDelete@9.12-Agree. It’s horrible how many out of state upper mgmt employees have been hired at ridiculous salaries. Praying for 4 more in ‘24. If not, we will be doomed to industry standard (bank) at best.
DeleteExactly. This has been said multiple times and could not be more accurate. The sense of pride drove us to do better. That sense is gone now and so many senior leaders have been pushed out that it's going to be really hard to find it again.
DeleteTotally agree!! I always hope no ones ask where i work anymore! I wont wear my SECU Apparel n puble anymore!!
DeleteThey got me and my famlies vote!

SECU use to be employee friendly. Now we are just a number to help with production numbers and to create profits for the executives
ReplyDeleteTHIS right here. We have an employee who is burnt out from all the production talk and the solution was to tell him to produce more
DeleteYeah I don’t mind working hard. Just treat me right. Pay me good and let’s do the right thing for our membership. It’s that easy.
DeleteThank you for mentioning “support NC”. SECU has been outsourcing more and more out of state. This even includes employees. We should strive to have as much as possible made and done in NC… it’s literally in our name.
ReplyDeletedon't they mean bring costs down? costs aren't down and we don't want to keep them where they are.
ReplyDeleteThat use to be something we were proud of but now we have found that keeping work and money in NC is not in the members best interest. It makes more sense to employ people in other states and outsource everything while charging more in interest to the poor people but slightly less then others so they still feel like we are their best option. I really hope the member nominated reverse the out sourcing. 😢 it creates less opportunities for employees, less jobs for NC, less money kept in NC and more headaches because we have less control over how the systems work. What sucks is the employees that are on board with these changes don’t realize how replaceable it makes them and how they will use that to justify paying employees less. But they still cheer when responsibilities are taken away because it makes their job easier not realizing that’s one more reason for lower pay.
ReplyDeleteBoard is cooked. Hope the other 3 havent sold their souls because our 4 are coming in hot in October. Like it or not. Get on board with what secu has been for 80 years or just get the h*** out of the way
ReplyDeleteI would love details on how the member nominated plan to lower expenses
ReplyDeleteHow about some details on just what this board intends to do if they win. No state employee, teacher or employee, except csuite, would like that answer
Delete@3:58 I do not see them wasting 7.5 million on postage for hundreds of thousands of ballots in the trash never opened. This Board and Admin's handling of this Board election should be the final straw with the waste and one-sided promotion of the incumbents with credit union funds
Delete@3:58…. so many ways to lower expenses… So many… Stop hiring executives from outside giving them salaries benefits that some have worked many many years to obtain, no more bonuses or milestones for executives. Get rid of the consulting companies, 3 year compensation study, crisis management companies, marketing campaigns and social media advertising for the incumbents.

ReplyDelete***BREAKING NEWS ***
ReplyDeleteWe just got a memo stating that SECU will be lowering car loan interest rates by half of a percent. The disgusting thing is that this only applies to “A paper”. How sad, instead of giving every member the best rate, let’s overcharge those who can least afford it while giving preferential treatment to the wealthiest of members. Shame on you board, shame.
Financials released today. $7.5 million in courier and postal expenses for 2025 fiscal year (2 months). Nearly double the amount for all of 2024.
ReplyDeleteSo we can reasonably assume 3.75 million was used on candidate mailings ... unless they would like to tell us? Or maybe we can ask at OUR owners meeting coming up ... oh wait ...
Delete"$7.5 million in courier and postal expenses..in 2 months"
DeleteThat is criminal, spending members' money that way.
oh my, I just reread that ... "Nearly double the amount for all of 2024."
Delete'NEARLY DOUBLE ALL OF 2024'
OH WOW ... at this rate the USPS will be in the Black thanks to SECU!
Question for SECU Admin or the Marketing Team handling Board Advertising or Anyone who knows, Will the October Annual Meeting be live streamed as has been the normal practice for the past few years?
ReplyDeletethey don't read this blog (wink-wink) ;)
