Whaddaya think Barn?
I'm voting with Lilnette for the member-nominated candidates, Andy! Everybody in Mayberry wants our credit union back serving local, hometown folks like it used to. Even Aunt Bea wants you to:
Vote for: Jean Blaine, Susie Ford, Julian Hawes, Kirby Parrish - the member-nominated candidates!
To the Editor,
I am writing this letter as a long-term member and former employee (retired 2021) of the State Employees’ Credit Union. This credit union has been a vibrant member cooperative since 1937 and has had an office in Surry County since 1984. I began working for the Credit Union in 1992 as a Peak Teller. I was already a member through the common bond of my spouse because his father worked for the state of North Carolina, but I had no idea of what truly made the credit union unique/different. However, upon becoming a part-time employee (peak teller), I began to see just how unique/different this cooperative was from other financial institutions.
The credit union gave the ordinary individual member a voice; a place to go where they could receive individual, fair, and honest treatment. They could tell their story and someone would listen and take into consideration all that had occurred within their lives financially and personally. Loan decisions were made locally most of the time and if the decision was a “not today but maybe six months from now, and by the way, let me help you get to where you need to be financially,” the member could say I want someone else to hear my story, and the story would be taken to the next level for consideration on an individual basis. Interest rates for lending and savings were the same for every member no matter their social economic standing. Every member received the same consideration. Every member has a vote; one vote per member independent of funds on deposit.
However, over the past three years the credit union board of directors has decided some changes are needed. They have decided to implement Risk-Based Lending (interest rates based on credit scores); they have decided that many local decisions will now be pre-determined by credit scores; they have taken away some of the local decisions and responded with a line in the sand approach.
Now this year during the Annual Meeting “of the membership,” SECU Members will not be allowed to ask a question. If a member wants to ask a question, it must be submitted prior to the meeting. If a question submitted is not answered during the question-and-answer session (1-hour maximum duration for this session), “and are of general interest to members, we will post a summary on our website after the meeting.” Not sure who determines “general interest to members”.
During this meeting there will be an election of four Board of Directors. I ask that if YOU are a member of the SECU, take time to review the candidates, talk with your local SECU staff, and determine for yourself who should be on this Board and vote. The SECU website (www.ncsecu.org) contains the information for the upcoming Annual Membership Meeting including candidate information and absentee voting instructions. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 8, at 1:00 p.m. at the Koury Convention Center, Greensboro.

ReplyDeleteAhhhh the unicorn approach!
I want us to be a unicorn again. It was wonderful.
DeleteI don't want to tell anyone how to vote but I'll tell you who to vote for ...
ReplyDeleteJean Blaine - Susie Ford - Julian Hawes - Kirby Parrish
:)
you're literally preaching to the choir
Deletejust warming up..... warming up ;)
DeleteNothing like Mayberry.
ReplyDelete"individual, fair, and honest treatment"... that is obsolete thinking like holding the door for someone else or showing general concern for other's wellbeing. Industry standard is the way to go - so everyone gets screwed equally and fairly like every other bank...I mean credit union.
ReplyDeletelight 'em up Lilnette!
ReplyDeleteIs it possible for someone to contact someone at a local TV station (something like 5 on your side) to air our grievances? I'm not sure newspapers reach enough people these days. I would look into it myself but as a current employee I cannot risk my head on the chopping block.
ReplyDeleteThat’s my worry is if I out myself good chance they will find a way to get rid of me for disagreeing😢
DeleteNew Working Principle: "Used To Do The Right Thing"
ReplyDeleteI’m so glad the term “member nominated“ is used on this blog. The term self nominated makes it sound like the candidates just unilaterally added themselves, and that could not be further from the truth. The member nominated candidates obtained hundreds, if not, thousands of signatures, which goes to show the support for these candidates.
ReplyDelete4 more in 24 restore rule of 85 back to how it was before!!!
ReplyDeleteIf they truly cared about employees. They would restore that benefit
DeleteIsn't it obvious after the last three years that they don't? The board, with Leigh in their ear, showed us what they thought when they brought in Hayes and allowed SECU as we knew it to be destroyed under their thumb.
DeleteIt was clearly done with intent. They wanted us broken and in many respects they succeeded. What they didnt anticipate is Mr. Blaine getting involved. They also underestimated the strength and resolve of so many former and current employees.
But don't be under any misconceptions, they DO NOT value us. They want us to leave. You would know by now if you were one of the chosen few. If you're still wondering where you stand, then you're not part of their plan. Not saying you will absolutely be removed, but your days of moving up are behiund you.
This was all calculated and planned. Started with a couple of the board wanting business loans, then RBL, then it snowballed to Cornerstone not-so stealthfully studying every org chart and guiding Jim and Leigh on a plan to eradicate us.
If where it is today wasnt in the plan, do you think Seabrook, Bomba, Dallaire, Varron,The H&R Block guy or most of the other 1st Cititizens infiltrators would still be here?
The fact that the board disbanded rule of 85 benefits is insane. Don’t you want to hire and retain dedicated employees for the long term? I guess not, let’s just be industry standard and deal with rock bottom morale, sky high turnover, and decreased incentive to stay employed at SECU. Bringing back retirement benefits would be a huge help to employees and I’m sure would cut down on turnover. Also, the fact that the board recently pretty much stripped away healthcare for retirees is deeply disturbing.
Delete@7:32 You mean the same Dallaire who proudly proclaimed that we would not post his positions internally because there was no way he would interview or hire any existing SECU employees? This on his second day of employment at SECU. Who fed him the BS that made him reach that conclusion so quickly???? You got it, Leigh Brady and Bomba. It was part of the plan.
DeleteIt so irritates me to see SECU on FB paying for ads using OUR money!!! Has anyone there disclosed that to members???? They are also only showing "their" 4 candidates to vote for and not the entire slate of 8 - they think we are really stupid!!! Can't wait to see them out the door and a new/old CEO asap!!! Please continute to work and tell as many members you can who to vote for! So many have no idea!!! We must do this!!!
ReplyDeleteI find it so disheartening that SECU is using MEMBER'S money to pay for their advertisements on Facebook supporting the 4 incumbents. If you are going to pay for ads, which we shouldn't be for a BOD election, at least use the ads to promote voting and highlight the platform of all the candidates. What realy irritates me is that we received a directive today to stay impartial for when members call us seeking advice. We've been told to not give our opinions and not to sway members to any candidates. Keep in mind that while employees are told not to speak their opinion, members if the Exec team have made public statements of support for the incumbents on social media, especially LinkedIn. Additionally, current BOD members are also posting public support on LinkedIn for the incumbents which have been "liked" by some ot the Executive team and by our CEO. Where is their impartiality? No employee would dare post support of any other candidate for fear of retaliation. This wreaks of "do as I say, not as I do" Very disappointed by our leadership and their actions. If you won't follow the same rules that you ask of your staff, then maybe we should all tell the members the correct nominees to vote for. 4 more in 24!
DeleteIt’s my money and I want it now!
Delete@6:34 -- PLEASE tell the members who the right people to vote for are! Anyone interacting with a member has a lot of power to sway this election the right way. FOR FREE!!
DeleteJust say "We've been specifically instructed not to give you our opinions on this very important topic, but I want you to vote with confidence and have ALL of the information. So check out www.secuforall.com along with SECU's website." At least spread the word...you know...in a very neutral way.
DeleteYou could get a new tattoo ...

You hear about FAS?
ReplyDeleteWhat about FAS?
DeleteI Believe they are spending so much time and OUR Money to keep their jobs, they have forgotten how to do their jobs!!!! Especially the CEO!!!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, Leigh Brady has never had any understanding of the financial situation of 75% of the members at SECU. Never worked a teller line, never made a loan in her life and wouldn't know how to do it if she had too. Oh wait. All she has to do now is look up the member's credit score and plug it into her secret algorithm and Voila!! Whether the member can even get a loan, and then what the rate will be is revealed. Doesn't matter that the member has a stellar loan repayment history at SECU. No No No. The Credit score from Equifax says No. Brady still has never made a single loan to a member at SECU.
DeleteWe got this! Vote like your future depended on it! 4 more, 4 more. show them the door!
ReplyDeleteTired of this board embarrassing us and all of Noth Carolina. Shame on these people
ReplyDeleteYou better tell everyone you know. If branch employees are miserable working at SECU now, it is time to tell the truth to members when they ask who to vote for. If the incumbents win, the writing is on the wall for the branch network and employees. This board and Brady has no commitment to retaining employees who work face to face or over the phone with the member. No career path, no promotion from within, gutting benefits as fast as it is possible to. C suite and it, loan administration and their business loan department that currently does what exactly? Watch out. South East Regional Credit Union, here we come! Jobs and our money will flow out of state. Investment in commercial real estate that Jim Hayes started, and is still on the books, will accelerate. Please heed the warnings! speak up. Tell members to vote for Blaine-Ford-Hawes-Parrish. It's a big machine and a lot of money($50 billion that belongs to us!) the incumbents have to self-elect!
