SECU Hosts Meeting Of The Minds With "Small" N.C Credit Unions - The Spider And The Fly?

"Will you walk into my parlour?" said a spider to a fly; ....

Before we get started on thinking about those emails, here's a brief update on what SECU and its' partner in  political prevarikari - (just made that up, so don't look it up - combination of prevarication and hari kari) - the Carolinas' Credit Union League (CCUL) are "up to" (or is that "down to"?) this week.

SECU hosted a meeting of "small" credit unions from North and South Carolina on Tuesday in Raleigh. Twenty or so "small" credit unions attended. The meeting was scheduled for five hours (10am/3pm), but SECU refused to publish an agenda. SECU did invite attendees to submit any questions in writing in advance. (Why does this sound vaguely familiar...oh yeah, those Fireside Chats with SECU advisory boards!)

Dan Schline was spotted lurking in the back of the room, but claimed he was simply an invited guest.

Thoughtful folks, however, might find a more accurate and disquieting message in the 1829 poem by Mary Howitt, "The Spider and the Fly": [full text...here]

 I.
"Will you walk into my parlour?" said a spider to a fly;
" 'Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy.
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I have many pretty things to shew when you are there."
"Oh no, no!" said the little fly, "to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair can ne'er come down again."

....verses II - VI............

VII.
He dragged her up his winding stair, into his dismal den,
Within his little parlour – but she ne'er came out again!
– And now, dear little children, who may this story read,
To idle, silly, flattering words, I pray you ne'er give heed:
Unto an evil counsellor, close heart, and ear, and eye,
And take a lesson from this tale, of the Spider and the Fly.[1]

— Mary Howitt (1829)

  1. Hey, good news. Per Jimmy Hayes they support this bill and. AND this isn't about growth and nothing is changing! All is safe with SECU. Huzzah! Definitely Pinocchio.

    1. Knew he was full of s$#t the very first time he showed his face in his "introductory" email. I told everyone at the branch he was a wolf in sheep's clothing. I wasn't wrong.

    2. The call on Friday was a joke! Tried very hard to discredit everything on the blog! Members are embracing RBL; we are not changing and a nice prepared script on H410! Even added operations managers to the call to broaden the reach.

    3. What was Friday call?

    4. "Meeting with the executives" Managers are able to witness the glory and holyness of our executive team and of course Jimmy the Messiah of SECU.

    1. So does she/her/hers. I'm glad. I hope they're beginning to sweat. There's strength in numbers. Especially when it comes to protecting OUR credit union!

  3. At the meeting Hayes blamed tier based lending on the SECU Board. Just following orders, sir!

  4. Members thrown under bus with tier discrimination lending, now Board thrown under by CEO, LGFCU and its members are under there, so are most House reps, getting crowded, but always room for one more. Hope he does a selfie.

  5. Narcissists never take responsibility for anything that goes wrong. First he blames Jerry Harmon and now the Board for RBL. He is CEO right? Guess the hard decisions always belong to someone else. He's just there for the glory....and the selfies. Unfortunately the Haze Sadness Machine just messes everything up. And more and more often it's becoming obvious to members. The employees already know.

Hey SECU Board, are you paying attention?

    1. Jerry is equally to blame. He supported it too! And told the Board he supported it

    2. Yeah Jerry made more than one bad call when he got to Raleigh. Look at the disaster he made with mortgage lending specialization.

    3. Why has the specialization for mortgages been disastrous? Former SECU employee here and just wondering

  6. Hoping our 20 small credit unions have plenty of strong leaders who aren't so easily led in the wrong direction... probably would have been more beneficial to them if they had met with LGFCU instead of SECU leaders. Instead of don't worry be happy.,.they would have probably been told there is a reason to worry.

    1. Not sure why one would think meeting with LGFCU would matter, Maurice is retired, and the new management there obviously doesn't care about their members. Open fields might be a saving grace from their forecasted failure in removing branches and other services they will not be able to duplicate.

  7. Don't understand why Schline would sell out the small credit unions in the state just to support Ayers and Hayes' New Direction for SECU. Maybe our Senators can see this New Direction is not suited for North Carolina's credit unions. Send H.410 through the Senate shredders and protect our smaller credit unions in the state. We will appreciate your help.

  9. A VP in our district is leaving to go to a work from home position. I really hate that because she was good at her job. And now word is they are going to give us new titles and tell us we make too much money this summer because they have taken away all our responsibilities to people working from home. That work being done isn't efficient either. Are the numbers of A loans up yet? I really don't think so. And merit raises, will this be the first year without one? That will say alot about how staff is looked at by upper management.

    1. Heard this also. O'l Jimmy isn't your friend folks so stop sucking his toes you bunch of LinkedIn toe lickers. He is here to trim the numbers, kill the branches, gobble up other CU's and increase profits. He won't fire you but make you want to quit.
