Credit Unions - Worried About Becoming A "Commodity"?

Catholico Numero Uno

👆Then why not seek the wide-open ethical niche in the financial marketplace?

Pope Francis was an active advocate for "people of modest means". Doesn't appear that he viewed that calling as somehow financially, ethically or spiritually demeaning or in-astute.

Shortly after becoming Pope, while speaking before 3 million people on Copacabana Beach on World Youth Day; the new Pontiff urged young people to become disciples to the "fringes of society".

"Dear young friends, you have a particular sensitivity towards injustice, but you are often disappointed by facts that speak of corruption on the part of people who put their own interests before the common good."

"Do not allow your hope to be extinguished.  Situations can change, people can change. Be the first to seek to bring good. Do not grow accustomed to evil, but defeat it."

Certainly the Pope was calling out to young people about faith, but couldn't he also be calling out to credit unions leaders - and to you and me? to put people and principles above profits?

People above profits, isn't that what credit unions do? Wasn't that the original purpose?
Realize that may no longer be "industry standard", but "There is no difference" in being a commodity!

... and not much future value to members of belonging.

Why not be real, rather than irrelevant?

  1. Bishop Michael Burbidge, who led Raleigh’s Catholic diocese for 10 years, fondly remembered Pope Francis as a powerful voice for the poor and the needy, a leader who considered compassion a “mandate from the Lord himself.”

  3. And it was a wildly successful business model for 85 years, until Hayes and The Board destroyed it. Local decisions--people were really helping people.

    1. Local decisions are what got us into this mess in the first place. I should not be able to get declined from one branch but approved at another.

    4. 11:45pm "There you go again"... no answer , no insight, no accountability, no name!

You indicated the CU was "in a mess"... if so how much longer can the ELT blame it on the past?

We're in the 5th year of "new/new"... when does "the mess" - whatever it is - become yours?

The original 2022 annual meeting question remains unanswered "How has the "new/new" benefited existing members after 5 years?"

Now you've added a second concern: "How did we end up in "this mess" (as you put it)?"

Agree with you that "farce" does occur in this blog - not infrequently in the comments...
