👆Then why not seek the wide-open ethical niche in the financial marketplace?
Pope Francis was an active advocate for "people of modest means". Doesn't appear that he viewed that calling as somehow financially, ethically or spiritually demeaning or in-astute.
Shortly after becoming Pope, while speaking before 3 million people on Copacabana Beach on World Youth Day; the new Pontiff urged young people to become disciples to the "fringes of society".
"Dear young friends,
you have a particular sensitivity towards injustice, but you are often
disappointed by facts that speak of corruption on the part of people who
put their own interests before the common good."
"Do not allow your hope to be extinguished. Situations can change, people can change. Be the first to seek to bring good. Do not grow accustomed to evil, but defeat it."
Certainly the Pope was calling out to young people about faith, but couldn't he also be calling out to credit unions leaders - and to you and me? - to put people and principles above profits?
People above profits, isn't that what credit unions do? Wasn't that the original purpose? Realize that may no longer be "industry standard", but "There is no difference" in being a commodity!
... and not much future value to members of belonging.
Why not be real, rather than irrelevant?
