re: 2025 SECU Board Election Policies and Procedures

Dear Ms. Warren,

Thank you for your prompt 6/11/2025 response to our 6/9/2025 request for a meeting concerning 2025 SECU Board Election Policies and Procedures.

As the 6/9/2025 letter noted, changes in the 2025 Election Policies and Procedures, approved by the SECU Board, were implemented without proper notification as required. The lack of required notification meant several members were unable to file nomination packages in a timely manner.

It is assumed that this error was simply an oversight and could be easily resolved if SECU so chooses. We asked for your assistance to facilitate the discussion, by asking SECU representatives to meet with us to find the best path forward.

You will also note in the letter that a copy was sent to Ms. Plaut, the Chief Legal Officer at SECU, from whom we have not heard. In several past communications from members, Ms. Plaut has failed to respond until "prompted" by an attorney. Given that history, we sought your intervention to expedite this time-critical issue.

We would like to further suggest the following: 1) That you simply place a call asking Ms. Plaut if changes were made in the 2025 election policies? and 2) if the required 180 notice to members occurred? If proper notice was not given - just an oversight (?), then an informal meeting to discuss a resolution seems reasonable and appropriate.

A five minute call from you seems like a sound, cost-effective, regulatory move in the best interests of all - including the 2.5+ million North Carolinians, who are SECU members.

If you believe it is better to fan the flame on this issue to no one's benefit, then please consider accepting this letter as a formal complaint for your action. Filing a complaint via your website is not required by state law.
Ms. Warren, having worked with you personally as the SECU regulator over a period of 40 years, I highly respect your knowledge, fairness, and integrity. Hope you will make that 5 minute call to SECU without forcing this matter into a formal complaint action.

If my counting is correct Ms. Warren, you must be approaching your 50th anniversary of service to the State of North Carolina - if so Congratulations! A remarkable record!

Look forward to hopefully hearing from you later today on the results of the call, still available to meet with you Friday. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Jim Blaine
SECU Member

  2. I've had to deal with a lot of examiners in my career. Caroline Warren is one of the most honorable and professional people I've ever worked with or met. She is such a credit to our state.
