  ...Also at ncsecu.org

✅  " In preparation for the SECU Annual Meeting scheduled for October 14, 2025, we are pleased to share the Annual Meeting Notice, which includes our Nominating Committee Letter that was originally distributed July 11, 2025 and the Candidates’ Statement of Background. All information is posted on our website and in SECU branches.

  • Annual Meeting Notice: This document outlines the details of our upcoming Annual Meeting, including the date, time, location, agenda, and rules.
  • Nominating Committee Letter: This letter provides the SECU Board of Directors Nominating Committee selections for candidates seeking election to the Board. These nominations are the result of a thorough evaluation process for each candidate, identifying individuals who are eligible for membership on the Board of Directors and evaluating multiple other factors, including the merits of the candidates by way of their education, character, professional, board and volunteer experience, as well as their knowledge of the Credit Union, demonstrated commitment to the needs of members, and capacity and capability to be an effective addition to the current composition of the SECU Board of Directors.
  • Candidates’ Statement of Background: This document shares relevant background information provided by each nominated candidate, including their occupation, education, board and volunteer experience, and membership tenure.

This year, four board seats are up for election. No applications for self-nomination were received. With only one candidate for each open seat, the nominees shall be declared elected by acclamation in accordance with the Bylaws of SECU. There will not be absentee voting or in-person voting at the Annual Meeting.

A livestream of the Annual Meeting will be available on the website. Registration to attend the meeting in person is available here. Thank you for being a valued member of SECU! "

“I haven’t the slightest idea,” said the Hatter.

    1. They did the bare minimum to advertise it even I as an employee had no clue.

    2. You were notified in memos, emails, branch notices. Not paying attention? That’s ok. The rest of us will pick up your slack.

    3. Yea, not true went back through all memos over past 6 months no memo on advise members to submit board applications. No postings easily found in branch.

  2. They're allowing an hour for Q & A. That should satisfy everyone. You can ask your questions of the person who actually runs the credit union, not the person who did 10 years ago but apparently didn't get the memo he doesn't anymore. All can tune in to hear facts, not misinformation.

  3. I wanted to ready the bylaw about the special meeting but was having trouble finding the bylaws all I could find were amended bylaws back in 2023. Does anyone know where I can find they bylaws?

  4. "No applications for self-nomination were received" Good! SECU deserves leaders who can follow basic instructions.

    1. I worked in a branch and had no clue there was no display no email a hidden page on the website. Those bylaws they are referring to not on the website and as an employee I can’t even locate them waiting on VP who couldn’t tell me where to find them to locate them.

    3. Was not the case even asked management about it after it happened if I missed it.

  5. "No substantive motions shall be permitted from the floor." Did you miss this part or did you skip it because it doesn't fit your narrative? We know its the latter at this point. Good riddance to the old/old.

    1. 3:13pm Been noticing it for about 3 years now! ... guess you've missed what this has been about? The member-owners of SECU are now prohibited from speaking at their credit union's annual meeting.

Regret you view it as a big win for the "new/new" when in fact it is a loss for every SECU member.

    2. Well that’s your issue. If you don’t like something, you assume the other 2.899 million don’t either. You don’t seem to consider the thousands of touch points members have that provide feedback. Prohibited from speaking - what impact does that have? So one year we heard from 20+ members say pretty much the sane thing from the RBL script. Board already knew and factored in that some didn’t like it. What do you think would happen. The board would say “now that we heard from some malcontents that can’t see the need for or accept change didn’t like that we did RBL. Hold the phone, now that we heard that, we’re gonna change it to one rate for all. Sorry members who use credit wisely. You have to pay more or go somewhere else”

Maybe it made those members feel good to speak, but it accomplished absolutely nothing.

    3. 3:13 so tired of people saying this stuff then crying when something doesn’t go there way. We as employees were told they would do compensation studies that only resulted in them telling us we get pay cuts and that they will take away promotions to reduce opportunities for raises. Make the ones we have harder to obtain. Given new benefits to just tell us that they are reducing them because it benefits us more. Rule of 85 taken away because we don’t appreciate it but not replaced with anything beneficial. Now 2% merit under the old administration employees thrived more members didn’t have to jump through countless hoops for a mortgage that now so we can sell them we are requiring members to have more on deposit less flexibility with guidelines. All told this benefits the members more. None of this for benefit of the members or employees it’s for benefit of the bottom line. We all had more room for growth prior to the changes of Jim and the board

    4. 5:26.. maybe you should consider the billion+ mortgage delinquency problem in a period of full employment. The wink and hand shake good ole boy days of lending where you cut corners and give a loan to whoever fogs a mirror are over. Have to do it the right way / hard way from now on. U think member service is giving the member whatever they want, with no regard to the impact on other members and the cooperative. Writing legit 30 year fixed mortgages and selling them will shield members and the cooperative. You whine cuz members need paperwork, and god help them, reserves. Of the thousands of members about ready to lose their homes, how many of those loans did you make?

    5. @5:26PM. You had more room for “growth” under Jim Blaine because he chronically underpaid staff.

No ones pay was cut and although there have been hiring and promotional freezes, promotions aren’t getting “taken away”. Hundreds of branch employees pay was adjusted UP from the compensation review. Further, the rule of 85 is still available, you are given a permanent choice now of what path to choose.

Hand shake mortgages are what got us into this mess in the first place. You need to reread the memos that get sent out. I suspect they’re completely unopened in your inbox

    6. Promotions were taken away opportunities were limited. Rule of 85 was taken away only grandfathered employees have the option no new employees and every memo they send about rule of 85 talks about how they aren’t required to keep it. Delinquency was lower before and now they are back tracking new benefits clearly we are now struggling crazy they didn’t seem to back track under the old rules.

    2. 531. Nothing ever good enough, is it? You should leave SECU. Or, can you form and submit a thoughtful question? Is you form of democratic engagement whining on this stupid blog?

      Delete
    3. How does a member submit a question? I can not find that information in this release? Also, is there anywhere we can see the questions that are submitted so we as members will not ask the same one over and over but can cover many topics that are of concern. Last year Ms Brady said she answered all questions but refused to publish a list of submitted questions. There is really no point in doing it like last year. She should hand out the questions with her written responses instead of reading it to us like a bedtime story. There is no interaction and members have no way of knowing what was asked. Terrible format!

  10. I am an 11-year employee and want to see SECU continue to succeed. I have seen several changes over the years; some are harder than others to adapt to. I chose to publish this post with my real name because I feel like several comments are made on this blog through anonymity that would not be made otherwise. Clearly there is division among members, employees, management, and the Board. Whether we agree with Mr. Blaine or not, we must remember Mr. Blaine was at the helm for many years and lead SECU to become the second largest credit union in the United States while also assisting smaller credit unions like Local Government Federal Credit Union, North Carolina Press Association Federal Credit Union, Latino Community Credit Union, and Greater Kinston Credit Union along the way. I have not always agreed with Mr. Blaine, Mr. Lord, Jim, or Leigh Brady but they were/are the CEOs I have worked under. None of them probably know who I am, but a lot of members do and that is why I am at SECU, the members. We all have our part at SECU. We all need to think about our attitude towards others before we post on this blog. We should be mindful to all the members that make up SECU; we will never all fully agree. I encourage all future posters to add their real name to their posts.
