Somebody's Nose Is Growing - Pinocchio #1

To The SECU Board of Directors

Dear Chairman Ayers,

The Triangle Business Journal recently published an article on Mr. Jim Hayes CEO of SECU. Here's a quote

TBR 3/6/2023:

"But the Raleigh-based credit union has not been known as a forward-looking IT organization, Hayes said. Changing that perception requires investment, and to do it safely, it also requires three to four years.

40-year refresh

SECU hasn’t updated its systems since 1983, and change won’t happen “overnight.”"

Mr. Ayers, in 1983 SECU did not have the following technologies:

  • ATM's  (now has 1100+)
  • A website - www.ncsecu.org now processes millions of transactions monthly
  • A mobile app - now processing millions of transactions monthly
  • Call center technology- now processing millions of transactions monthly -not to mention later upgrades for speech recognition
  • Electronic Billpay - now processing million + transactions vs checks
  • Mobile payments
  • Electronic deposit capture by phone or ATM
  • Branch technology updated multiple times for teller/branch staff (Margo+++)
  • Lending platforms for mortgages/loans, including electronicsignatures
  • Multiple redundant proceessing centers for security and reliability
  • ...do you have time for more of the facts?

Or,  Mr. Ayers, do the facts no longer really matter to you and the SECU Board when you are talking to the members?

How about a straight, simple answer Mr. Ayers:

Does the SECU Board agree that SECU "hasn't updated its systems since 1983"?   Y/N ?

(...or do you plan to accuse the press and TBR of "fake news?)
