The Definition Of "Chicken Something Else" Is The 2023 Word Of The Year! And It Is "Going Digital"...

http://www.infodocket.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/amer_dialect_soc_logo.png  From the American Dialect Society...

"Going Digital" at SECU?

ðŸ˜Ž "Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel, New York, NY–Jan. 5—The American Dialect Society, in its 34th annual word-of-the-year vote [link to entire article]" has come up with a doozy - descriptive, but not exactly in good taste!

"The vote is the longest-running such vote anywhere, the only one not tied to commercial interests, and the word-of-the-year event to which all others lead. It is fully informed by the members’ expertise in the study of words, but it is far from a solemn occasion. Members in the 134-year-old organization include linguists, lexicographers, etymologists, grammarians, historians, researchers, writers, editors, students, and independent scholars."

😎 "The envelope please. And the winner is... "

"The term "enshittification" became popular in 2023 after it was used in a blog post by author Cory Doctorow, who used it to describe how digital platforms can become worse and worse. “Here is how platforms die: first, they are good to their users; then they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; finally, they abuse those business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. Then, they die. I call this enshittification,” Doctorow wrote on his Pluralistic blog."

"Ben Zimmer, chair of the ADS New Words Committee and language columnist for the Wall Street Journal, and Dr. Kelly Elizabeth Wright of Virginia Tech, data czar of the New Words Committee presided over the event. Enshittification is a sadly apt term for how our online lives have become gradually degraded,” Zimmer said.""

😎 "Our New-New Strategic Plan"? "Going Digital", while changing the SECU "member profile" from owner to pigeon, to patsy and to profit... just more "click-bait"?

... is this too getting ready to hit the fan?

  2. Can’t wait until they start teaching that one in schools! Kids are already dumb enough as they are. Now we’re just inserting swear words into phrases and calling them new words. Great world we live in.

  4. It seems it's not only the digital world, but ALL our institutions! Not a day goes by when I don't roll my eyes at the latest nonsense! Most of it 'By The EXPERTS'!!! I'm grateful I didn't get institutionalized by the university system!!! I learned to use my 'common sense'. Thanks Mom and Dad ;)

  5. "Super Bowl LVIII commercials will cost companies up to $7 million for 30 seconds of advertising space on CBS' television broadcast of the big game."

That's a drop in the bucket for these big time spenders of the members' money! Maybe buy a couple minutes!!!

    2. Amen to that! They need to be held accountable for running our fine institution into the ground.
